What is the typical progression of a case? In order to hire Barten Law
Office, P.C. an initial consultation with an attorney is required. If
Barten Law Office, P.C. decides to accept the case, the prospective
client is informed of the required down payment towards their case.
Once the down payment is received, the Barten Law Office, P.C. conducts
a final conflicts check and forwards a retainer letter to the
prospective client detailing our instructions. The prospective client
reviews, signs and returns the retainer letter to the office and Barten
Law Office, P.C. is hired.
A first client meeting is conducted by telephone or in person to review
changes to facts and laws since the initial consultation. The case is
thoroughly reviewed again, legal options are discussed with the client,
and the client confirms which course of action he or she finds
preferable. A confidential User ID and Password, a client
questionnaire, and the list of documents needed from the Client is sent.
After receiving the required information and documents from the client,
Barten Law Office, P.C. prepares legal documents for the client's
review. After client approval, the legal documents are forwarded to the
client for their signature to be returned to the office. The final
legal documents are organized according to required procedures and
legal arguments are incorporated into the application, motion or brief.
If there are filing fees and expenses, these are paid to Barten Law
Office, P.C. by the Client and the application is forwarded to the
appropriate place for filing. Clients are able to monitor the filing
through this website. Frequent communication and contact by the Client
is encouraged.
If the case requires a hearing or trial, the client will meet with the
attorney to prepare witnesses, documentary evidence, and make sure the
client understands the legal theory of their case. For immigration
interviews, the documents needed for the interview will be provided to
the office under an attorney's direction. The client will meet with the
attorney to prepare for the interview. On the day of the interview, the
attorney will meet with the client at the interview site, attend the
interview with the client and act as an advocate for the client.
After a case is completed, a letter advising the client of that fact
will be sent along with information about potential future issues to
consider.
