Dream Act to Be Introduced Next
Week - Let Your Voice Be Heard and Call
Our Senators
Next week, the Development, Relief, and
Education for Alien Minors Act (“The Dream Act”)
will be introduced in the Senate as an amendment on another bill. The
amendment will need 60 “Yes” votes to be attached
to the bill.
If later passed, the DREAM Act will allow
immigrants who have graduated from a U.S. high school and have no
criminal record, to go to college or military service. These high
school graduates would be allowed to apply for lawful permanent
residency and eventually U.S. citizenship. Monday, September 17th,
I phoned both Senator Grassley's and Senator
Harkin's offices to encourage support for the Dream Act. Phone staffers
from each office indicated there have been a steady stream of calls
both for and against the Dream Act.
To voice your support for the Dream Act,
call:
Senator Chuck Grassley (202) 224-3744
Senator Tom Harkin (202) 224-3254
